Honored as the ISU Outstanding Special Teams Player of the Year at the Cyclone football awards banquet ... selected as an honorable mention all-Big 12 Conference choice as a punter by The Associated Press and league coaches ... earned special teams MVP honors vs. Northern Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa ... one of 10 NCAA Division I-A players last season to handle both their team’s punting and place-kicking ... ranked among the nation’s top punters, ranking third in the Big 12 and 16th nationally with an average of 43.8 yards per punt ... his freshman season ranks second on the all-time single-season chart behind Marc Harris (45.7/1996) ... was the nation’s top freshman punter ... notched a 36-yard field goal and a 41-yard field goal against Alabama in the Independence Bowl ... had a 47.3-yard punting average in the Independence Bowl, pinning two punts inside Alabama’s 10-yard line ... was a major factor in Iowa State’s win over Iowa ... averaged 42.8 yards on six punts, including a punt that pinned the Hawkeyes at their own 2-yard line ... had a great game at Kansas ... with Iowa State’s first offensive series stalled at the Cyclone 39, Yelk came out to punt ... a wall of Kansas rushers broke through Iowa State’s punt protection and were poised to block Yelk’s punt ... instead, Yelk sidestepped the would-be blockers and ran around left end and down the sideline on a 48-yard run that gave ISU new life at the Jayhawk 13-yard line ... the Cyclones scored five plays later with Yelk adding the extra point ... averaged 46 yards on four punts against KU, including one kick that was downed at the Jayhawk 6-yard line ... made good on all seven extra-point attempts and also had six touchbacks on eight kickoffs ... was a huge factor in the Cyclones’ 20-14 win at Missouri, averaging 49.5 yards on six punts, with three punts inside the 20, and kicking two field goals ... the performance earned him Big 12 special teams player of the week honors ... had a 62-yard punt that went out of bounds at the Missouri 2-yard line ... that punt set up Iowa State’s first touchdown after Missouri couldn’t move the ball on the ensuing series and was forced to punt, giving ISU possession of the football at the Missouri 24-yard line ... ISU scored two plays later ... Yelk had punts of 58, 62, 48, 52, 43 and 34 yards, all of which forced Missouri back into its own territory ...Yelk buried Missouri with a 34-yard punt at the Tiger 1-yard line early in the fourth quarter ... Missouri was not able to move the ball and Iowa State returned the ensuing Mizzou punt to the Tiger 38, setting up Yelk’s 21-yard field goal for a 17-14 ISU lead ... Yelk added an additional field goal from 24 yards out with 3:48 left to give Iowa State a 20-14 lead, ensuring that Missouri would have to score a touchdown to win the game ... Yelk also had a kickoff for a touchback, a ball fielded three yards deep in the endzone, and a pair of kickoffs taken at the Missouri 1-yard line ... averaged 48.5 yards on four punts against Kansas State ... averaged 47.6 yards on five punts against Colorado ... hit on a field-goal attempt in first three games this season, including two against Baylor ... had 29 touchbacks on 58 kickoffs ... hit on 36-of-37 extra-point attempts ... 2000 ...
