| Taylor Martin Becomes The Newest Cyclone

An important meeting with Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik before the Cyclones victory over South Dakota State on Thursday led to Antelope Valley defensive end Taylor Martin deciding that Ames was the right place for him. "I met with Coach Chizik before the game and he told me to do something during the game," said Martin. "He said that I should see if I can envision myself as a Cyclone during the game. He said that if I can't then maybe Iowa State is not the place for me." After the game, Martin had clearly made up his mind. "I knew I wanted to be a Cyclone so I verbally committed to them," he said. "It was a really good game and I just liked the fans and the whole atmosphere." The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end who will be graduating in May also liked what he heard from Coach Chizik. "We had a good talk and he said they have three defensive linemen who are graduating," said Martin. "I feel I'll be coming in at the right time to fight for a starting spot." Part of the reason that Martin could envision himself as a Cyclone is because of how the defense played. "I really thought they did a great job creating a lot of turnovers," he said. "I like how they hustled and play as an overall unit." Taylor even learned something new on his visit to Ames.
