John Walters, the radio voice of the Iowa State football and men's basketball teams, was honored by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (NSSA) as the 2005 Iowa Sportscaster of the Year.

Walters just finished his third season as the "Voice" of the Cyclones after spending seven seasons as the play-by-play commentator for ISU basketball games on the Cyclone Television Network. Walters has been an outstanding ambassador for Cyclone athletics, serving as an emcee for various Iowa State functions, including award banquets and Cyclone Club outings. He is in his 10th season as the sports director for WOI-TV in Des Moines.
