Iowa State split a pair of games at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas, dropping an 81-59 decision to North Carolina State in the first round of the Freeport division and topping North Florida 74-48 in the consolation game ... senior Brittany Wilkins earned all-tournament honors after collecting 39 points and 17 rebounds in the two games ... the 6-3 forward/center drained 66.7 percent of her shots, including 3-of-7 treys ... with a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, Wilkins was one of three Cyclones to post double-doubles against North Florida ... junior Megan Ronhovde had 14 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Lyndsey Medders had 10 points and 13 assists ... freshman Nicky Wieben narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds ... About the Bulldogs
After notching two wins to start the season, Drake has lost three consecutive games ... the Bulldogs own home wins over UMKC (74-54) and South Dakota State (54-52), but fell in road games at Oregon State (63-61) and Oregon (70-40) before returning to Des Moines, where they dropped a 65-56 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ... Jill Martin, who tallied a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds in Thursday’s game against TAMCC, is the only Bulldog averaging double-digit scoring at 14.4 ppg ... the junior also leads the squad with 7.6 rpg ... Drake is shooting 36.3 percent from the field, but only 18.4 percent from behind the arc ... sophomore Lindsay Whorton has taken 65.6 percent of her shots from 3-point territory (8-of-40) ... DU owns a narrow rebounding edge over opponents (37.2-35.4).

Drake owns a 25-19 series advantage, including a 13-7 record in Des Moines ... Iowa State snapped a two-game losing streak with a 69-40 win in Ames last season (Dec. 8) ... ISU’s last win in Des Moines was a 90-60 victory on Dec. 5, 2001 ... ISU head coach Bill Fennelly is 6-4 against the Bulldogs ... Cyclones - Bulldogs in 2004 (ISU 69, DU 40) 
Iowa State stifled Drake in a 69-40 win in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones (5-1) held the Bulldogs (4-2) to their fewest points since a 95-29 ISU win in the first game of the series in 1975.

Iowa State limited DU to 27.6 percent shooting in the game, including 23.1 percent from behind the arc. The Cyclones scored a season-low 69 points on 41.7 percent accuracy.

The Cyclones went on a 12-0 run to open the game before Drake scored on a Jill Martin jumper with 15:31 on the clock. The Bulldogs made only eight baskets in the first half, including just 4-of-13 over the final 10 minutes, to give Iowa State a 34-18 lead at the break.

Drake went scoreless in the first five minutes of the second half, while Iowa State put together a 16-3 run for a 50-21 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Cyclones cleared the bench, getting all 13 players in the game.

Four Cyclones scored in double figures, led by birthday girl Anne O’Neil’s 17 points. Megan Ronhovde had 11 points, while Mary Fox and Katie Robinette added 10 points each. Martin was the only Bulldog to score in double digits with 11 points.

Cyclones - Bulldogs in 2003 (DU 61, ISU 36) 
Turnovers and frigid shooting spelled defeat for Iowa State in a 61-36 loss at Drake. The Cyclones scored their lowest total in the Bill Fennelly era and the least amount of points since a 65-36 loss to Montana Jan. 6, 1993.

Iowa State got just 24 points from its starting five and shot a dismal 27.5 percent in the game. The Cyclones were outrebounded for the first time this season (42-31) and committed a season-high 22 turnovers in the game.

Drake led most of the first half, but Iowa State kept it close and managed to take a one-point lead (14-13) with 9:21 on the clock. The Cyclones sank just two baskets to close out the first half, giving the Bulldogs a 27-18 advantage at the break.

Iowa State came out of the locker room to tie the game (31-31) at 14:42 and then take the lead (34-31) with 14:04. ISU would score just one more basket the remainder of the game, giving Drake a 15-2 run.

Drake’s Linda Sayavongchanh and Erin Dohrmann led all scorers with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Lisa Kriener had seven points to lead Iowa State.

Bumps and Bruises
Seirra Dawson underwent surgery Nov. 18 to remove bone fragments in her elbow and will be out indefinitely ... Rachel Pierson has missed two games (IUPUI, North Florida) with a sore back ... Gillian Bjerke, who missed three weeks of preseason workouts with an ankle sprain, sat out the season opener after aggravating the sprain ... Heather Ezell was hospitalized for eight days in October with a staph infection ... doctors removed her appendix ... Ezell was placed on intravenous antibiotics for nearly two weeks, restricting any contact drills or scrimmaging in practice ... she returned to full practice Nov. 5, missing exactly four weeks of action ... Ezell is now playing with a broken finger on her shooting hand, an injury she sustained against North Carolina State

Medders Matters
Junior point guard Lyndsey Medders was a preseason all-Big 12 Conference honorable mention selection by the league’s coaches ... the Los Angeles native also earned preseason second-team All-America recognition from Women’s Basketball News Service ... Medders is ISU’s top returning scorer from a year ago and ranked second in the league in assists (6.69 apg).

Trey Bien
Iowa State has made at lease one 3-pointer in 307 consecutive games dating back to 1995 ... that streak ranks nationally behind Cleveland State, Drake and Miami (Ohio) ... the school record for 3-pointers made in a game is 18 (vs. Missouri, Feb. 19, 2000) ... Megan Ronhovde sank 6-of-6 triples vs. Colorado last season, adding three more consecutive baskets from outside in the next game vs. Texas for a string of 11-straight 3-pointers.

Coach vs. Cancer
With March Madness, an indication of the closing weeks of NCAA basketball is the increasing hoarseness in head coach Bill Fennelly’s voice ... but this year, his voice didn’t bounce back as usual ... Fennelly saw his doctor in July and they discovered some growths on his vocal chords, so he was scheduled for a microlaryngoscopy with laser excision immediately ... the procedure removed a nodule on his left vocal chord, which the ensuing tests proved was cancerous ... fortunately, further tests found that the cancer was superficial and non-invasive, an excellent prognosis that required just one follow-up outpatient laser surgery ... there was one catch, however ... the laser surgery required strict vocal rest for two weeks ... Fennelly made it through ISU’s basketball camps with paper and pen in hand, but was more than ready to gain the use of his voice again ... the follow-up surgery took place in early August before school started, so his additional week of vocal rest was spent without any Cyclones in Ames ... now Fennelly utilizes a portable microphone and speaker system in practice nearly every day ... he doesn’t use it for scrimmages, however, to emulate the actual gameday circumstances for the players.

Home Sweet Hilton Magic
The Cyclones have been phenomenal at home during head coach Bill Fennelly’s tenure, compiling a 129-22 record (.854) in Hilton Coliseum, including a 55-3 mark against regular-season nonconference opponents ... Iowa State finished 15-0 in Hilton Coliseum last year, the third Cyclone squad to go undefeated at home ... ISU recorded its first women’s basketball sellout in the 2004 WNIT-NIT doubleheader March 25 ... the capacity crowd watched the Cyclones advance to the WNIT Final Four with a 66-58 win over Saint Joseph’s.

Head Coach Bill Fennelly
Head coach Bill Fennelly took over a program that had only five winning seasons in its 22-year history ... he has led the Cyclones to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 1999 Elite Eight berth and Sweet Sixteen games in 2000 and 2001 ... Fennelly’s Cyclones captured the only league championships in program history, winning back-to-back Big 12 Conference Tournament championships in 2000 and 2001 and earning a share of the regular-season crown in 2000 ... Iowa State spent more than four years in The Associated Press national poll, including 34 weeks in the top 10 ... he has posted more conference victories (98) in 10 seasons at ISU than all of the previous seasons combined (43) ... his teams have drawn record-setting crowds, ranking among the top 11 schools nationally in attendance the last seven seasons ... Fennelly’s leadership produced ISU’s first-ever All-Americans in Stacy Frese and Angie Welle ... his Cyclones have earned all-conference recognition 26 times and academic all-league honors 46 times ... six of his players have been selected in the WNBA professional basketball draft over the last five years ...
