Boyd commits to ISU

Iowa State was his top choice for a long time and on Wednesday morning, Mesquite (TX) Horn High School's Kyle Boyd decided to end his recruitment by choosing to become a Cyclone.

"I committed this morning," said Boyd. "I called Coach Bray and Coach Rhoads and they were real happy. They told me that they were glad to have me and that they felt that I made a good choice. Coach Rhoads said that he feels that I can make big impact and that he felt that I would help them win a lot of games."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound inside linebacker chose Iowa State over Baylor, Wyoming, and Louisiana Monroe. He told Cyclone Sports Report that there were a lot of reasons for him choosing Iowa State.

"They were my first offer and I have always wanted to play in the Big 12," said Boyd. "When I went up on my visit in April, I really liked it up there. It was a good town and I really liked the coaching staff. Coach Rhoads is a really nice guy who seems to put the players first and he also really cares about academics also with his players."

Kyle said the Cyclone coaches have always made it clear why they were recruiting him so hard.

"They really like how I keep my shoulders square and fire to the ball," he said. "They feel that I play downhill and that I am a very quick linebacker."
