The massive 6' 8", 255 pound defensive end out of MS Gulf Coast CC arrived back from Chapel Hill on Sunday from his second official visit. Now he is looking forward to his third and last scheduled visit.
"I am just going down there (FSU) with an open mind, as I did with Ole Miss and North Carolina. "I am excited to see their campus and to watch them play Maryland. I grew up watching FSU football."
Wayne had a chance to take in his official visit at North Carolina with his mother and old high school coach last weekend.
"They came down there and met me. It was our first trip to take together. She had never been with me on a college trip, and she loved it (at North Carolina). I can't really say anything bad about what everybody saw. Everybody felt the same way."
What new did the 5-Star DE learn about the Tar Heels while on the trip?
"The area, Chapel Hill, is beautiful. It is hard to top that area. It is just a special area. They have like 9 schools within an hour of each other. I liked that. I got to talk to Coaches Blake and Davis. We really spent a lot of time touring the campus and getting a good feel for North Carolina."
North Carolina beat Miami for the third year in a row and Dorsey left the game impressed.
"I just like how fast and how hard their defense plays. It was definitely surprising. I liked their schemes. I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw at the game."
What did the coaches at North Carolina say to Wayne during the visit?
"Pretty much the same things. I talk to Coach Blake a lot. He is a good guy and teacher of the game, as far as the defensive line. Coach Davis too. They just want me to make an educated decision. Even if it is not North Carolina; they said they would continue to keep up with me. That is a different approach that I liked. They just want me to weigh the pluses and minuses and come up with the best possible decision for me. Since I am a juco guy; I do not have time to mess around. I can not go wrong with my decision. I have to get to school in January and hit the ground running."
What were their main selling points?
"A North Carolina degree carries a lot of weight. Definitely the academic aspects stood out. That is what I really wanted to see was how much weight their degree carries. It would open a lot of opportunities for me after football, while also giving me the opportunity to get on the field quickly and be coached by a great defensive line coach in Coach Blake. They have a lot of positives."
What did Wayne say back when the Tar Heel coaches asked where they stood before he went back home?
"They didn't ask that (laugh), but I think they know how I feel about the situation. But as far as the big picture, I got back and wrote down all of the positives and negatives like I did with Ole Miss. Then I just put it aside so I can go to the FSU visit with an open mind."
Compare North Carolina and Ole Miss.
"The situation is really good at both places. Neither schools is going to bring in a juco guy to sit on the bench. I will play a lot at either school. I really couldn't find anything wrong with either school. I felt the exact same way leaving Ole Miss as I did North Carolina. All you can ask for in anybody's recruitment is an opportunity. If you feel like you are a big time player, which I do not mean to sound cocky or anything but I do, all you can ask for is the opportunity to compete for a spot. They both need a big time end to come off of the edge. It is hard because I like them both equally, and I can not find anything negative about either one. They both have the same positives too. It is going to be hard (making a decision)."
Will Wayne's mother get to look at the Ole Miss campus before he decides?
"Yes, she wants to get down there within the next couple of weeks. She has to fly down there, but I know she has talked to Coach Nutt and Price about getting down there to see it. She will take that trip sometime before I sign because she really does want to go there before I sign."
