CSR Breakdown: Diante Garrett

Posted Nov 13, 2009

Assistant coach T.J. Otzelberger provides his insight on junior point guard Diante Garrett exclusively with Cyclone Sports Report.

Cyclone Sports Report: What has Diante improved on the most since last season?

Coach Otzelberger: I would say his jump shot has improved the most. He's still not going to be a guy that's going to take a lot of three pointers but when he does we're confident that he can knock it down. He has just shown a great energy and his leadership is just a constant force because he has such a positive attitude.

Cyclone Sports Report: What area of Diante's game does he still need to be working on the most?

Coach Otzelberger: Defensively he sometimes is a little too worried about his man instead of locking into the team concept. His perimeter shot has clearly improved but I think there is always room to improve.

Cyclone Sports Report: What do you see his role being this year?

Coach Otzelberger: Mentally he has grown a ton during his first two years and I feel his progress is substantial. He will need to get us going right from the start and he has to know who needs to get the ball when he is running our offense. He also will play off the ball sometimes and he will need to create plays and get a basket when we need one on occasion. He was third in the league last year in assists and I really feel he could lead the league this season.
