Loth surprised by visit to Iowa State

Posted Oct 18, 2009

Only Cyclone Sports Report gives you the full coverage of this huge recruiting weekend at Iowa State. We recently caught up with Crespi(CA)High School offensive tackle Ben Loth who took an official visit to Ames this weekend and what he witnessed was not at all what he expected.

"Everything about the visit surprised me," said Loth. "To be honest I didn't think I would like it because I thought it would be boring but it clearly wasn't."

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle said that his game-day experience at Iowa State practically blew him away. "We got there and saw the walk up and it was pretty intense," said Loth. "The atmosphere was just awsome and it's really a great college town."

Ben also noticed something while watching the Iowa State victory over Baylor. "Their offensive system would be very easy to adjust to because it's very close to what we do at Crespi," he said. "We run the spread with no huddle so I really think it would be easy to pick up."

He also liked getting to speak with the coaches after the game. "I mostly talked with Coach Bleil and Coach Ash who I have known since he was at San Diego State," said Loth. "They are great guys who I really enjoyed getting to hang out with."

Before heading back to California, Ben had a chance to speak with Coach Rhoads. "It went real well and he just wanted to know if I had any questions about the program," he said.

"I want to talk things over with my dad and I definitely won't be making a decision in the next few days but I really left my meeting with Coach Rhoads with a good impression."
