Texas Safety Looking To Visit Iowa State

Due to the consistent attention that Iowa State has paid to Mac Arthur High School's Ray Mitchell, a visit to Ames is clearly in the future for the safety from the state of Texas.

"I'm definitely going to take a visit to Iowa State," said Mitchell. "They send me letters almost every day and that tells me that they really want me. I think there would be a chance to possibly start early in my career if I chose Iowa State."

The 6-foot-1, 181-pound free safety has offers from Iowa State and Wyoming and is also receiving serious attention from Baylor and Texas Tech. Ray says that Iowa State first started looking at him during the spring. "Coach Wells came down during spring football and came out to some of my practices," said Mitchell. "He has told me that he likes my versatility in that I can also play cornerback and how I'm always flying around to the ball. We've also talked on the phone about four or five times."

Mitchell doesn't expect to make any decision soon but does know what conference where he would like to play his college football. "Right now I'm thinking that I probably won't make a decision this summer and depending on how my recruitment goes I will probably make it during my season in the fall," he said. "My hope is that I can play in the Big 12 because that is my dream conference and I think I would love that experience."

Ray had 77 tackles and two forced fumbles last season.
