Barnett Becomes First Cyclone Commitment

Garland (TX) High School quarterback Jared Barnett made Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads a very happy man on Saturday when he called to notify him that he was ready to become the first member of Iowa State's 2010 recruiting class. Cyclone Sports Report was then first to talk with Jared about his decision.

"I just called him a few minutes ago and told him I was ready to become a Cyclone," said Barnett. "He seemed very excited and he told me that he can't wait to have me at Iowa State."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback says that it was the Coach Rhoads and the rest of his staff that ultimately led him to his decision. "I just really like the way the coaches are and the way that they recruited me," said Barnett. "They always shoot straight with me and I love that. That's pretty much why Iowa State is where my heart is at."

Jared says that he is excited to play in the Big 12 and to ultimately be able to run Coach Herman's offense. "I just can't wait to play for Coach Herman because running that offense is big time right there," he said. "Knowing that I'm going to play in the Big 12 tells me that I just have to start working harder because I know that I'm going to be playing on a bigger scale. I'm just going to have to step my game up."

Jared, who chose Iowa State over Kansas State and Houston, says that he can't wait to get back to Ames for a visit. "I might make it down for a one day camp this summer," he said. "Along with that I will definitely be coming up for a game in the fall."
