Cyclone Sports Report: What schools are recruiting you the hardest?
Jared Barnett: Houston, Kansas State, and Iowa State have all offered me a scholarship and Vanderbilt is also recruiting me really hard.
CSR: When did Iowa State start recruiting you?
JB: About a month ago. I've been pretty much talking with Coach (Luke) Wells about twice a week since they started recruiting me. Things with him and I are really good.
CSR: What is your current height and weight?
JB: I'm 6-foot-1 and I currently weigh 195 pounds.
CSR: What are your strengths as a quarterback?
JB: Most people talk about my accuracy and that I can get the ball out really quick. I'm not the fastest guy but I'm elusive and I can definitely make people miss.
CSR: Did you get to do anything on Saturday before the spring game?
JB: Yeah, first my dad and I met up with Coach Wells and then he brought me in to meet with Coach Herman. Him and I then talked about the offense and the new stuff that they are putting in at Iowa State. He also showed me some film from what they ran at Rice when he was there. He's real nice and he told me that he liked everything about me from what he had seen of me on film.
CSR: Did you get to talk with Coach Rhoads?
JB: Yeah, I talked with him in his office later when he officially offered me the scholarship and he told me that he was just really happy to get me down for the game. He was really awsome to talk to and he sounds like he knows what to do to turn the program around.
CSR: What did you think about the spring game?
JB: The atmosphere was really great and there was a lot of people there for a spring game. I liked that people were even tailgating for a spring game.
CSR: What did you think about the Iowa State offense during the game?
JB: I liked it and what's great is that they pretty much run the same offense that we run at my high school. Not everything is the same but overall it's the same base offense.
CSR: Cyclone defensive back Devin McDowell also attended Garland High School in Texas. Do you two know each other?
JB: Yeah, my dad actually coached him when he was younger but I only saw him briefly on my visit.
CSR: Did you get to talk with any of the players?
JB: I only really talked with Jerome Tiller and he was real nice. He just told me that it was nice to meet me and that he hoped that I chose Iowa State when I make my decision.
CSR: Do you plan to come back to Iowa State for a visit in the fall?
JB: I definitely want to get back for a real game in the fall and I'm definitely planning on it.
CSR: Is Iowa State your leader at the moment?
JB: Yes, I really like them and they are definitely my leader right now.
CSR: Do you have any other visits set up?
JB: I'll be taking a visit to Kansas State on May 3rd.
CSR: When are you looking to make a final decision?
JB: I want to commit either in the spring or early summer. I could be making a decision in the next few weeks.
