Sam Names Top Five After Iowa State Visit

Hitchcock (TX) High School's Michael Sam clearly enjoyed his visit to Iowa State but noticed something that the Cyclones might be missing.

"The game was awsome and the Cyclone fans were great as you could tell that they are really hungry for a winner," he said. "I just feel that the players just need to show a little more leadership. I think that's what they are lacking. I feel I could bring that to them if I pick Iowa State."

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end has done his homework on Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik and came away very impressed after meeting with him. "I had a real good meeting with him and I had already read up on him and learned about all of his success at Auburn and Texas," he said. "He' a winner and I think he's going to build Iowa State into a real good program."

Sam says that he also enjoyed getting to tour the campus on Sunday. "The campus was real nice and I liked meeting with the academic people," he said. "I plan on majoring in sports medicine and I could tell that they really care about their players."

Michael feels that he is likely down to five schools and that Iowa State definitely has a chance. "I could definitely see myself going there but I'm not ready to make a decision," said Sam. "I'm not going to make a decision for a while because I want to see all that is out there. Right now I'm pretty much down to Arizona State, Iowa State, Colorado State, Oklahoma State, and Missouri."
