Broomfield Commits To Iowa State

Cyclone Sports Report reported last night that Palm Bay (FL) safety Deon Broomfield was close to committing to Iowa State after his outstanding weekend visit. Earlier tonight, Deon decided to become a Cyclone making him the eleventh commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.

"Right after practice I called Coach Fountain to tell him I was committing," said Broomfield. "He put Coach Koonz and Coach Bolt on the phone with him and they were really pumped to hear the news. Then they put Coach Chizik on last and he welcomed me to the family."

Deon had wanted to wait to talk things over with his parents when he got home from his visit on Sunday night. After sleeping on it and thinking about it all day, he realized that he didn't need to wait any longer. "I talked with them last night and then again this morning before school," he said. "They told me that it was my decision and so when I told them that I was ready to commit they were real happy for me. They said that going to a school in the Big 12 is as large as it can get."

Deon really enjoyed his visit and likes that the Iowa State roster already has many kids from Florida. "They have around 10-12 people from Florida which really makes it more comfortable," said Broomfield. "When you hang out with kids from your own state you already have that connection so that's pretty cool."

The 6-foot, 169-pound safety considers himself to be a versatile player in the defensive backfield. "I'm more of a free safety but really I feel I can play either position back there," he said.

Most importantly, Deon is just happy to know that he will be playing with a lot of the guys he met this weekend. "It's just great to know that those guys are going to be my teammates because they are all really good guys," said Broomfield. "I'm just ready to go there and help take the program to the next level."
