Cyclones Add Wisconsin Linebacker

Posted Aug 4, 2008

Cyclone Sports Report has been given confirmation from the Cyclone coaching staff that Iowa State will accept the commitment of Kimberly (WI) High School's A.J. Klein.

"It really came down to two things for me," said Klein. "The first thing was that I had a chance to possibly play early and try to get into the mix. The second reason was the coaches. They just have great chemistry."

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker sensed he might become a Cyclone when he got to meet with Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik on his unofficial visit. "When I met with Coach Chizik in his office he talked to me as a real person and asked me about my family and other important things besides football," said Klein. "That meant a lot to me and my parents. We just loved him."

A.J. said that defensive coordinator Wayne Bolt was very excited when he called to commit. "He told me that he feels I'm a great fit at Iowa State," said Klein. "He told me that I'll have a great time playing at Iowa State and that I'll have a chance to make an impact as a freshman."

Klein would like to play as a freshman but is not against taking a redshirt year. "They said it's really up to me," he said. "But if I'm only going to play special teams my first year, I think I will probably redshirt."

A.J. also can't wait to play for Coach Chizik. "On my visit we talked a lot and we sat and watched film of the Oklahoma game from last year," said Klein. "We broke down the film and I realized how much he really knows his stuff."

Klein also understands Coach Chizik's policy of closing down his recruitment. "I know that some schools might still call but I won't be taking any visits to any other schools."

The only visit he will be taking is his official visit to Iowa State. "I'm not sure when it will be," he said. "I think it will probably be in October. I just want to make sure that my family members can come with me."

A.J. also stated how happy he was to have his decision over with. "It's a real big stress reliever just to know it's done," he said. "My parents are proud as heck and now I can just focus on my senior season."
