Smith Excited About Cyclones

Fort Walton Beach (FL) High School has produced one college star in Danny Wuerffel who went on to win the Heisman Trophy. If its current middle linebacker Rashad Smith continues to improve, he might also eventually be making a big impact on the college game.

"I feel I read defenses really well but right now I'm just working on speed training," he said. "I run a 4.6 forty right now but by the end of the summer I want to be at a 4.5 or 4.4 if possible."

Rashad currently has offers from Iowa State, Ball State, and Arkansas State. He says the Iowa State offer was very exciting to get. "I feel I'm going to wait to make a decision but they are definitely up there," said Smith. "It would be pretty sweet to play in the Big 12. Getting to show my skills would be great and I like the fact that they play tough competition."

Smith says he mostly stays in contact with Iowa State defensive coordinator Wayne Bolt. "I talk to him about once every couple weeks," he said. "He has talked to me about coming up for a visit. I think they feel I could play early there."

While Smith wouldn't have a problem playing football away from the state of Florida, location could possibly end up being a factor for him. "Personally it's not a problem but my dad thinks about the distance because he likes to see me play," he said. "I'd rather play where I'm most comfortable so I don't think it will be a problem."

Rashad has also decided to wait until after his senior season to make his final decision. "I'm definitely waiting until after the season," said Smith. "My dad wants me to check out each school before I make any decisions."
