| Are The Cyclones A Leader For Rainey? | ||||
![]() |
It is looking like it will come down to a battle between the state of Texas and Iowa State for the services of Northbrook (TX) High School's Derrick Rainey. | |||

"My leaders right now would be Iowa State, Texas, and Texas A&M," said Rainey. "I haven't been offered by Texas or Texas A&M but both schools said that over the next few weeks that I might be getting one. If I do they would become a leader for me along with Iowa State." The Cyclones made the first offer to Rainey and he still remembers the excitement. "It was so exciting because it has been my dream to play big-time college football," said Rainey. "Having Iowa State come and offer me first was like a dream come true." The 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete also has offers from TCU and Arizona but says the reasons he likes Iowa State do not all have to do with football. "I want to go into engineering and I know they have a really good program," he said. "I also like how Coach Chizik is getting a lot of Texas kids to go to Iowa State." Rainey says that the Cyclones are recruiting him as a possible wide receiver, running back, or safety. "I'd like to play wide receiver or running back because I haven't played too much defense," he said. "I really like to be on the offensive side of the ball." Derrick says that a visit to Iowa State is likely in his future plans. "I talk to Coach (Jay) Rodgers a lot and he is trying to plan a visit with me," said Rainey. "Iowa State is recruiting me the hardest so I will likely visit there in the fall." |
