Qvale Ready For Summer Road Trip

The frustration of not being noticed is over for Brent Qvale. The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle from Williston (ND) High School has seen his recruitment speed up greatly over the past few months. "It's really exciting for me," said Qvale. "None of the schools wanted to talk to me and now it's really starting to pick up."

In order to gain more knowledge on some of the school's recruiting him, Brent's family has planned a very important road trip. "I'll be at Nebraska on June 12th, Iowa State on the 14th, Iowa the 15th, and Wisconsin on the 16th," said Qvale. "I'd like to stay in the Midwest region if possible. I don't know if I'd like it out there on either coast."

Brent will also use this summer to make some improvements for the upcoming season. "I have to keep working on my footwork and I have to always make sure I'm in good shape." In order to stay in good shape, he spends a lot of time in the weight room and can already bench press 360 pounds. "The summer before my freshman year, the varsity coach said I might play varsity so I realized I had to get stronger," said Qvale.

He did move up to varsity in the middle of his freshman year and has been selected 1st Team All-State each of the last two seasons. "It was nice to make it for a second year in a row," said Qvale. "It means a lot to know you are one of the top guys in the state."

While Brent has offers from North Dakota State, North Dakota, Montana State, and Montana, he expects that could change in the next few weeks. "Coaches from both Iowa State and Nebraska have been out to see me recently," he said. "Iowa State Assistant Coach (Jeff) Koonz talked to my coach and told him they need a tackle. I'm guessing it might come soon."

Qvale said he's not sure when he will make his college choice but it could come sooner than later. "I'll make the decision whenever I feel ready," he said. "If one of these schools offers, I might take it and commit. If not, I might wait until after my senior season."
