A review of the final grades are in
and Iowa State’s student-athletes had a very good first semester in the
classroom.
Cyclone student-athletes who
achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average earn membership in Cy’s Academic
Club. It’s a large group, boasting 187 ISU student-athletes, including 14
who earned perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the Fall 2006 semester.
Forty-nine percent of Iowa State’s student-athletes earned at least a 3.0
grade-point average.
“Our student-athletes had a very
good semester,” Iowa State associate athletics director for academic services
Donald Reed said. “We have held steady at about half of our students grading out
at 3.0 or higher.”
The Fall 2006 term was a semester
of change for a Cyclone athletics program that boasts 18-sports and more than
350 student-athletes. The department's athletics academic services staff moved
into the Hixson-Lied Student Success Center in January. The building is
used by all Iowa State students, with the second floor being the home of the Rod
and Connie French Athletics Academic Center. The center provides
student-athletes with state-of-the-art computers, study rooms and houses the
academic services staff.
“There was a lot of excitement
about moving into the new building,” Reed said. “It is great to be able to
settle in and I think Iowa State’s student-athlete academic performance will be
enhanced with everything we have to offer here.”
Included in the total of 187
student-athletes honored for their academic success, 86 made the Dean’s List,
with at least a 3.5 grade point average.
