Valley Athlete Ready to Roll

Zac Sandvig, a 5-foot-10, 177-pound, athlete, from Valley High in West Des Moines, Iowa, finished up his senior season by being named captain of the Iowa All-State team. Sandvig didn't waste any time giving Iowa State his verbal commitment before his senior season.

"I was getting a lot of letters last spring and summer," Zac Sandvig said. "Iowa State offered me a scholarship. Iowa and Wisconsin were high on me but I had my heart set on Iowa State.

"I went to Iowa State a few times on unofficial visits and fell in love with the program. I got along with the younger players well at Iowa State. I camped at Iowa State and I've been to a few games even before they offered me.

"After I committed to Iowa State everything kind of cooled down. It was kind of nice getting the recruiting thing over with. I was able to concentrate on my senior season."

Sandvig rushed for 1,600 yards as a junior and scored 13 touchdowns. He was an all-state selection as a junior. This past season, Zac rushed for 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Which position will Sandvig play at Iowa State?

"Right now I'm going to start out at cornerback," Sandvig said.

"Hopefully that works out, if not I'll probably get thrown around until I find a spot. Maybe wide receiver, I'll be reporting in June. I'm going to take a few classes during the summer and I'll be hitting the weight-room."

Sandvig was being recruited by Terry Allen who's now the head coach at Missouri State University.
