Johnson Talks Iowa State
"I went to Northern Illinois and I liked it up there but the Iowa State coaches recruited me the hardest from the very beginning. I spent a lot of time at Iowa State on unofficial visits. I spent a lot of time with the Iowa State coaches on the phone. Iowa State is who I will sign with in February.
"When I visited Iowa State, I knew that's where I wanted to go to school. Coach (Dan) McCarney has been real and honest with me. I want to play defensive end and I'm going to get that chance to do that but Coach McCarney also told me that they see me growing into a defensive tackle.
"Iowa State is only a four hour drive for my family. My parents really like the school and the coaches. I liked the campus a lot and the people. I plan on majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Iowa State was with me the whole season and it's the perfect fit for me."
Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 240-pounder, from Homewood-Flossmoor High in Flossmoor, Ill., was a three-year varsity starter for the Vikings. Coach Tom Bailey says that Johnson is one of the best defenders he has ever coached.
Johnson participated and did very well last April at the Scout.com Combine that was held at the University of Illinois. Bailey plays with a high motor, he gets to the quarterback, he gets to the football and he makes plays downfield. He has the frame to bulk up and be a very good defensive tackle for the Cyclones.
Johnson had 68 tackles and 10 sacks as a senior. He was an all-state selection.
