Cyclones Land Ozigbo

Iowa State nabbed its one and only running back commit of the 2015 class Tuesday in the person of Sachse (TX) star Devine Ozigbo

The Cyclones have their running back.

Three-star Sachse (TX) talent Devine Ozigbo announced his commitment to Iowa State on Tuesday via Twitter, choosing the Cyclones out of a top three that included rival Iowa as well as Boise State.

Ozigbo notified the ISU coaching staff of his decision Monday.

"I gave them a little heads up," Ozigbo told "They were in a staff meeting so when I told them I could hear cheers."

Ozigbo says he has no plans to take other official visits.

The Cyclones were slow to offer Ozigbo, pulling the trigger near the latter half of the evaluation period, but slipped into Ozigbo's top eight in early June. Ozigbo admitted the Cyclones were an afterthought when he swung by Ames following a planned unofficial visit to Iowa in late June but ended up preferring the ISU visit to Iowa City, drawing a strong relationship with running backs coach Louis Ayeni.

"Honestly, when I went up there, I went up to Iowa basically just to see Iowa," he said in a July interview. "And I thought, I'm gonna be in the state, might as well see both schools that have offered me. It wasn't originally my intention at all. They were an afterthought until I saw the facilities and met the coaches. I had no idea."

Ozigbo rushed for 947 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior, guiding Sachse to an 11-2 record. The Cyclones have told him he'll be the only running back in their 2015 class — meaning they'll cool it with Butler JUCO back Chris Carson.

The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Ozigbo reports more than 20 scholarship offers, including, in addition to his finalists, Boston College, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Minnesota, Mississippi State, SMU, Syracuse, Utah, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Wisconsin, among others.

"As soon as I got there, I immediately got a good feel," Ozigbo said. "Everything felt right. I was really excited about. There was nothing to not like." Recommended Stories
