Onetime Cyclones commit nearing final collegiate decision

Tommy Mister is nearing a decision to commit to Indiana, the three-star running back told Scout.com on Thursday.

Mister, a one-time Iowa State commit, has in-home visits with the Hoosiers planned for Thursday and next week and will also visit Indiana for an unofficial trip, most likely the weekend of Jan. 24.

Nothing is official yet, Mister says, but this weekend looks like his target commitment date.

The Chicago St. Rita tailback withdrew his verbal commitment to Iowa State on Dec. 26 (he had an Ames visit planned for Jan. 24), citing concerns as to who'd be his offensive coordinator and position coach. The Cyclones fired Courtney Messingham and Kenith Pope on Dec. 1.

Last week, Iowa State introduced Mark Mangino as offensive coordinator and Louis Ayeni as running backs coach. Reached for comment, Mister said he was doing his homework on the coaches' style and scheme but knew Ayeni from when Ayeni recruited him as a member of the Toledo staff a year ago.

Mister has a strong relationship with Hoosiers running backs coach Deland McCullough.

St. Rita went 12-2 and won the city championship this fall. Mister, the quarterback (he'll play running back in college), was named to three different all-state teams and four all-area teams and was player of the game in the Chicago Prep Bowl and won Offensive MVP of the Chicago CCL Blue conference, a very tough division.

"I had an awesome season, it was amazing," Mister said. "We won the city championship and I rushed for over 1,700 yards and threw for over 1,400 yards and had exactly 30 rushing touchdowns and 11 passing touchdowns."
