Senior forward Melvin Ejim is out four-six weeks after suffering a hyperextended left knee and bone bruise in Wednesday's practice, the Cyclones announced Thursday.
Ejim led the Big 12 in rebounding (9.3) and double-doubles (15) last season and was a preseason All-Big 12 pick.
Ejim will miss hyped contests against Michigan and BYU, Nov. 17 and Nov. 20.
The four-week timetable runs to late November, meaning Ejim could return for the home game against Auburn in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, Dec. 2.
The Cyclones play Dec. 7 and Dec. 13 against Northern Iowa and Iowa, respectively. The Iowa game falls in the six-week territory. After that, Iowa State doesn't have a game until Dec. 22 (George Mason).
Iowa State begins conference play in January.
Melvin averaged 11.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as a junior, shooting 50 percent from the field. Head coach Fred Hoiberg said Ejim had improved his three-point shooting during the offseason — Ejim shot 34.8 percent from behind the arc last year after sitting below 30 percent his first two seasons.
