Shawne Alston's thigh bruise has proven tough to overcome, as the WVU running back estimated he is only at about 65 or 70 percent of his optimal health and still in the midst of a recovery process that has involved multiple hospital visits to undergo general anesthesia and drain blood from his injured leg.

Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson said film study has revealed a few things about WVU's issues on offense. First and foremost, something as simple as effort is the key difference between plays that have worked and those that have not.

Quarterback Geno Smith continued to field questions on the offense's struggles and what can possibly be done to correct them. He also discussed the similarities between the WVU defense he faces in practice every day and that of Oklahoma State.

Review of the game film from the TCU loss was at least encouraging to the West Virginia defenders, according to linebacker Josh Francis. The key to the improvement, according to Francis, was an increase in pressure on the opposing quarterback.
