Henton takes visit to ISU

Eastern Lansing (MI) High School's LaDontae Henton's recruitment completely changed recently when Dayton head coach Brian Gregory left for Georgia Tech. The former Flyer commit has now opened up his recruitment and is beginning to take some visits. He spent part of his weekend in Ames and shared with Cyclone Sports Report what he thought about his time at Iowa State.

"I really liked everything about it," said Henton. "It's a great college town and it really has a great atmosphere."

The 6-foot-6, 217-pound forward felt comfortable right away because when he arrived he immediately began hanging out with people that he already knew very well.

"Coach Corn (Cornell Mann) recruited me at Dayton and Coach T.J. (Otzelberger) was recruiting me for Iowa State for a long time so I already have a great relationship with both of them."

He also knew one of Iowa State's players very well and he clearly enjoyed getting to catch up with him during the weekend.

"Chris Allen and I go way back and we've been good friends for a long time," said Henton. "He really wants me to come to school with him so he was definitely recruiting me to Iowa State. He told me that he loves it here and that he wouldn't rather be anywhere else. He said they run an NBA type of offense and so that was great to hear"

LaDontae said that the Cyclone coaching staff has been very clear on why they would love for him to end up in Ames.

"They really like my versatility," he said. "Coach Hoiberg said that he could see me collecting a lot of minutes playing the one, two, and three position on the court."

Henton also told CSR that his time Cyclone Head Coach Fred Hoiberg could not have gone any better.

"I hung out with him most of the weekend and had breakfast at his house today," said Henton. "He's just a really great guy and he told me that he really wants me at Iowa State. I like that he knows what it takes to get to the league and yet he's not the type of coach that's going to scream at you if you make a mistake. He wants to try and make you a better player."

LaDontae also enjoyed running into a legend from his high school while at Iowa State.

"Yesterday I got to go to the practice facility, Hilton Arena, and Academic building and they were all really great," he said. "Then later I got to meet (Iowa State head wrestling coach) Kevin Jackson who went to Eastern High School and he's someone that everyone still talks about back home."

While LaDontae clearly enjoyed his time at Iowa State he's not ready yet to name a favorite school.

"Iowa State definitely helped themselves with this visit but I don't officially have any favorites right now," he said. "I'm going to take a visit to Penn State next weekend and then I'll be taking two more visits but I'm not sure where right now. After I have taken all my visits I'll likely make a decision in late May."
