Cyclone Sports Report goes one-on-one with St.Louis (MO) Chaminade College Prep running back Rob…
Rob Standard: I t happened a few days ago. I called Coach Barkema and we talked for a while and then he put me on the phone with Coach Rhoads and I committed to him. He was very excited and told me he was glad to get my commitment because they had been recruiting me really hard.
Cyclone Sports Report: Why did you ultimately choose Iowa State?
Rob Standard: Ever since I went their on my unofficial visit it just felt like home and I just really liked it. It's a place where I can be a better person and really develop as a player.
Cyclone Sports Report: How important was the fact that Iowa State recently had a running back transfer out of the program and that the starting running back Alexander Robinson will be graduating at the end of the year?
Rob Standard: It was a factor but not a major factor because I don't mind if I even redshirt next season. It might give me a better chance to learn the system and so it might be a good thing going through a learning stage.
Cyclone Sports Report: You said that Iowa State felt like home. Why?
Rob Standard: I would say the coaches and the players. When I went there they were just good, sound people that really treated me well. They seem like people who work hard and that is who I want to be around.
Cyclone Sports Report: Are you excited to have your recruitment over with?
Rob Standard: It feels good to be done because the recruitment process can be complex and very frustrating at times.
Cyclone Sports Report: How has your season gone so far?
Rob Standard: As a team we are 3-0 and I have rushed the ball 75 times for 639 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Cyclone Sports Report: When will you be visiting Iowa State next?
Rob Standard: My dad wants us to go the Kansas State game this weekend so we might do that and then after that I'll be going to one of the home games in Ames but I'm just not sure which one right now.
Cyclone Sports Report: How excited are you to play in the Big 12?
Rob Standard: I'm very excited because the Big 10 and the Big 12 have always been my two favorite conferences. I watched so many games from those two conferences growing up so it's real exciting.
Cyclone Sports Report: What do you like most about Coach Rhoads?
Rob Standard: He's just a hard-nosed coach that really seems to give 100 percent. He seems to push the players hard to be better and I want to be pushed as a player so I think it's a real good fit. I just really like talking to him and I look forward to playing for him.
